Safety Beyond Borders is a member of the Global Alliance of Road Safety NGOs and an affiliate of the West African Roads Safety Organization (WARSO – the organization of road safety lead agencies in West Africa). Directly or through our affiliate organizations, the impact of SBB road safety activities has reached Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Gambia, Botswana and Ethiopia.
Safety Beyond Borders was founded in 2001 (as Safety Alliance) to collaborate with the relevant government agencies to address the very high cases of roadway crashes, injuries and deaths at a time Nigeria was losing over 30,000 lives annually in auto crashes across the nation.
Safety Beyond Borders was one of the road safety NGOs from across the globe invited by the World Health Organization to attend the first global meeting of road safety NGOs in Brussels, Belgium. It participated actively in the drafting of the Brussels Declaration which was presented to the 1st United Nations Ministerial Summit in Moscow in November 2009 to bring road safety issues to the front burner globally.
